Mercedes F1 Team Leader Doesn’t Want Rules to Change

mercedes-benz-logoWith the premise that the F1 field will stay more competitive the longer the rules stay the same – since every team will be able to tune and retune to near perfection over time – Toto Wolff of the Mercedes Benz F1 racing team doesn’t want to see the rules change again. This is understandable, though, seeing as they have been tearing up the competition since the last rule change in 2014 when they were able to use a specific Mercedes engine that helps dominate the pack.

 

April 19 (Reuters) – Formula One should shelve plans for major rule changes in 2017 because the sport is in an ‘ideal situation’ already with faster cars and more competitive races, according to Mercedes motorsport head Toto Wolff.

The Austrian, whose team have dominated since the 1.6 litre V6 turbo hybrid power units were introduced in 2014, said there was an argument for doing nothing after three exciting races this season.

Formula One teams have until the end of April to agree 2017 rule changes by majority vote and meetings are scheduled in the coming days as the sport seeks to make cars faster and more spectacular. Continue Reading
