Mercedes Taps Into Google Home for Hands-Free Everything

2017 to Bring Android Integration to New Benz Vehicles

If you have an Android phone and you have used the “OK, Google’ function to ask it a question or have it complete some task, you already understand just how neat and powerful the technology can be. All of that utility will be getting integrated into new Mercedes-Benz vehicles come 2017, which will allow for some awesome connectivity between all your tech at home, at work, in the car and on your phone, if you so wish. The possibilities are staggering with this new addition to Mercedes-Benz cars, and considering the speed at which developers can build and release new apps these days, it’s probably not going to be long before we can do things with Google-connected cars that people never dreamed of. I’d offer an example here, but there’s no way I’m giving away my billion-dollar app idea! ;) One thing I do wonder about, though, is just how deep the connectivity is going to go. It would be truly amazing if it could, on its own, discover an issue and let you know that you need to order a new Mercedes-Benz transmission for your vehicle. Honestly, though, I look forward to turning on the heat in my car before I get in by telling my phone to take care of it and during the commute home tell my car to get the heater in my house running so it can be comfortable inside right when I get there.   Mercedes-Benz today announced the integration of the Google Assistant on Google Home. Google Home, a voice-activated personal assistant, makes it possible to interact with the Mercedes-Benz vehicle from home. The feature will be available to Mercedes-Benz customers in 2017. The collaboration with the Google Assistant is part of Mercedes-Benz long-term goal of creating an intelligent ecosystem around cars, and leveraging cutting-edge technology to make everyday life more convenient for their customers. With this integration, Google Home users can send destination to their Mercedes-Benz Cars; set and activate heating and cooling systems within their vehicles; find out fuel and charge levels; check lock status as well as interact with their cars in order to lock doors and many more—all from the comfort of their home. Mercedes-Benz New S-Class Package is Surprisingly Cool

“Night Edition” S-Class Coupe a Thing of Beauty

Sporting slick black accenting and a look that uses both high luxe and sportiness thanks to it having AMG parts as well, the new Night Edition of the S-Class Coupe looks like one of the best ‘dark’ edition cars we have ever seen. From bumper to bumper and rims to beautiful rims, this is seriously one very impressive looking Benz and we can’t wait for the public debut at the Detroit Auto Show.   Christmas might be right around the corner, but Mercedes-Benz is preparing a package perhaps better suited for Halloween with the new S-Class Coupe Night Edition. Like every other evening edition on the market, the special edition S-Class gets a bunch of glossy black accents. Mercedes finishes the grille, 20-inch AMG wheels, mirror housings, and side sills in the dark shade, and then affixes a "Night Edition" badge on the front fenders. The paint, Selenite Gray Magno, is a stylish matte shade, although Mercedes calls it an optional item – there's no breakdown of other available colors, although we're guessing they're similarly dark and mysterious. Hyundai On the Offensive with New Luxe Brand

New Luxury Car Brand Genesis Has a Ton of Potential

(And Should Probably Scare the Heck Out of Other Luxury Manufacturers)

It looks like Hyundai really isn’t messing around when it comes to getting their new luxury brand Genesis off the ground. The new subsidiary car company already has somewhere around 350 dealerships across the country where the vehicles are available new and while that’s all well and good, there are some neat promises that will accompany the brand to up their luxury game. For one, they intend on making most trips to the dealership a thing of the past when it comes to getting scheduled maintenance or repairs taken care of. Instead, they are planning to bring a loaner car right to the customer’s home and take the owned Genesis with them. Likewise, they’ll deliver the car back to the owner when the work has been completed. Where this differs from other brands is that it is a company-wide effort to offer this level of service as opposed to one that may or may not be offered from dealer to dealer. What is crazy to think about is just how quick Hyundai began their move into luxury automaking. As pointed out by Chris Woodyard for USA Today, “Other luxury brands had years to plan the spinoff of their luxury brands. Hyundai did it in nine months.”That also meant a heck of a lot more work than just designing and building the cars themselves, which Woodyard explained further, saying, “It's fallen to a veteran auto executive Erwin Raphael to try to create a separate identity around the brand called Genesis. That has meant trying to get the word out and educate the dealer network about what it's going to take to please luxury customers.” Now, this move into the Luxury market by Hyundai should be more than just a little scary when it comes to other luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Acura, Lexus and others. In recent years, Hyundai has proven ridiculously capable when it comes to marketing and rebranding. Starting from scratch with a new brand should mean it is just that much easier for them to quickly build a reputation and a following. Let’s look at what they did with the core Hyundai brand. Although they have been making cars since the late ‘60s, Hyundai didn’t really come into its own in the U.S. until the company started aggressively marketing here in 2000. Previous to that, they were barely regarded as decent when it came to bargain car companies were concerned, and honestly that view of them is generous considering they were not even close to being a recognizable household name at the time. Since then, Hyundai has seen one of the most impressively meteoric growths ever witnessed in the automotive industry, and their growth is still going. Less than a decade ago in 2008, the Hyundai Motor had barely broken into the top ten car manufacturers in the world. By 2012, they had made their way to the number five spot and currently they are the third largest car manufacturer on the planet, behind only Toyota and Volkswagen. They even own the single biggest car factory on Earth, which can be found in South Korea and builds more than one-and-a-half million cars every year in that one location alone. As if all of that wasn’t scary enough to their competition, Genesis Motors has some real heavy hitters on their side when it comes to the luxury car manufacturing industry. Specifically, this is Genesis senior vice president Manfred Fitzgerald and brand designing lead Luc Donckerwolke. Fitzgerald used to be the director of brand and design for a little car company called Lamborghini. Donckerwolke was the design director for Bentley, Audi and Lamborghini. Nevertheless, there is one thing that us Mercedes-Benz lovers can always be happy about no matter how the probable Genesis vs. Mercedes-Benz battle plays out: We have access to an incredible selection of beautiful and powerful classics that no new company could ever hope to compete with. Sure, that may not offer much peace of mind to Daimler, but it sure is for us. There really isn’t much more in the world that is nearly as cathartic as replacing a classic Mercedes-Benz transmission and taking a spin in a 35-year old car that rides like it’s brand new.

A Look at the Design Work and Luxury of Mercedes-Benz

New Book to Explore the Aesthetics of Mercedes

While much of the classic design work and the luxuries offered by Mercedes-Benz is alone worth checking out in the book Sensual Purity – Gorden Wagener on Design, there is a section that looks like it will be extremely interesting to peruse through. That is the chapter titled “Mercedes-Benz Future World”. In that part of the book (as you probably have guessed), they show all sorts of things that we can expect from Mercedes-Benz in upcoming years. In particular, this show an intimate look at the autonomous cars that the German automaker has in the works. Furthermore, there is imagery and discussion about the expansion of Mercedes-Benz, including looks at yachts, buildings, and even roads and bridges. What is particularly interesting about the book as a whole is that its cover doesn’t have any kind of branding showing it off as a Benz product in any way. Though pretty much everything in the book itself does have a connection in some way to Mercedes, it still apparently stands as a great addition to the design world (something that would be discussed further here if we were actually part of that world, but alas…). If you are more interested in getting your car looking better aesthetically, we have all sorts of classic Mercedes-Benz car parts, but one of the easier changes you can make is by grabbing some new rims.   Mercedes-Benz creates under the banner ‘Sensual Purity’, a term Gorden Wagener coined to represent the German marque’s two poles. “Rational and emotional, hot and cool,” offers the Daimler AG chief design officer. He admits the philosophy has greatly helped guide him to formulate a contemporary design identity for the brand, a visual language that is reflected in the current family of cars. Sensual Purity – Gorden Wagener on Design guides us through this philosophy. Published by Condé Nast International, it is a collaborative project involving Wagener, the photographer Jonathan Glynn-Smith and a creative team at Mercedes and the publisher. Continue Reading

In The Race Between Hyper Hatches, Just How Much Faster is Mercedes?

Mercedes-AMG vs Honda

Carwow hosted a recent video featuring a quarter mile drag race between the Mercedes-AMG A45 and Honda Civic Type R, both Hot Hatches with the Mercedes costing an extra third of the Honda’s entire price. Of course the race was to see just how much faster the Mercedes was with the added features of 4 wheel drive and launch control.   We live in an era where hot hatches are divided into two different performance categories: the normal hot-hatches, which are the ones that offer all the usual traits and the so-called hyper hatches, a new breed of compact performance cars that pack so much grunt, they can easily embarrass a less skilled supercar driver at the traffic lights.   Both the Mercedes-AMG A45 and the Honda Civic Type R belong to the hot-hatch universe; but the German model is the one packing significantly more power and a bigger price tag.   The point of this drag race is not to find out which of the two models is the fastest on a straight line, Continue Reading

Mercedes Running Pilot Test of Croove Car-Sharing Service

Interesting New Car-Sharing Feature from Mercedes-Benz

Alternate means of transportation have been rapidly growing in the last couple years. Uber and Lyft, the ridesharing services have exploded in popularity and have almost wiped out traditional taxi services in many locations. Mercedes’ Croove service might be the revolution that kills traditional car rental services as it is intended to connect renters directly with vehicle owners to rent directly. Croove allows users to enter in parameters about what make, model and luxury features they require in their rental car and will return a list of available options for the renter’s timeframe needed. The clever app can help people get a taste of what it’s like to be behind the wheel of a Mercedes, but surprisingly the service is not a Mercedes exclusive, instead Daimler has set out to have any car available on the service so long as it is in good condition and is no more than 15 years of age. That last limitation can be a bit of a bummer for anyone who would want to rent a classic for their trip to Italy - but it makes sense as far as difficulty of insurance goes. So despite the decision to have their service allow for any manufacturer’s cars to go up into the rental program, it seems Mercedes has found out a clever means of making a profit here that will benefit them more than most over auto companies. Croove will not only get new drivers behind the wheels of Mercedes, enjoying that posh interior or smoothest ride possible suspension offering the perfect carriage for their business trip or vacation. That is definitely a beneficial marketing move - but even more than that, the new Croove service could offer prospective Mercedes buyers a means to actually afford their payments on that new luxury coup they’ve been eyeing as they can rent out their new Mercedes every once and awhile and take the bite off their payments giving access to luxury cars to income brackets who’d never think of them before.   It’s become a well-trod refrain, but carmakers are looking at what comes after ownership, and car-sharing between individual owners and renters is one of those models. Mercedes-Benz has begun its own car-share service that adopts that approach – Croove, a platform that has now launched as a pilot in Munich, Germany. Croove is pure peer-to-peer car rental model, where renters use an app to make choices about what model, trim level and other options they’re looking for in a car. The app will poll its database of registered vehicle owners in the area and find out what’s available for the time and duration need by the renter, and connect the dots.  Continue Reading

What Happens In The Void of Champion Nico Rosberg’s Retirement?

Can Mercedes Compete After Rosberg?

Mercedes Racing management had only a couple day’s notice that their new championship driver Rosberg intended to retire now that he’s rode to the championship in Mercedes’ racing machine, which has left the German auto team scrambling for a new driver for the 2017 season. It seems that Valtteri Bottas is the first choice of Mercedes, but they intend not to make an official announcement until January third so we’ll be on the edge of our seats until then. Rosberg was a fantastic driver who took advantage of what Mercedes could put under the hood, but Mercedes is certain to find more competent drivers to fill out their team in the wake of Rosberg.   In recent days it's become clear that Valtteri Bottas is Mercedes' first choice to replace Nico Rosberg - and that Williams is open to negotiating the Finn's release. Adam Cooper explores the implications of a potential deal. Two weeks have passed since Nico Rosberg’s retirement decision sent shockwaves through F1, and left the Mercedes management scrambling to find a new teammate for Lewis Hamilton. The team said on Thursday that there would be no announcement before January 3, so that has at least left observers of this extraordinary situation a chance to catch their collective breath. Why Do People Put “Baby on Board” Signs on Luxury Vehicles?

baby-on-board

Although they have received quite a bit of mockery and spoofing over the years since they were first created, those yellow “Baby on Board” signs are designed to actually serve a couple of purposes. However, there are also some urban legends that have been born from the signs, too. For the most part, people put these signs up in their car to let other drivers know that there is a small child in the car (obviously). Theoretically, this is supposed to help trigger something in other drivers in the hopes that a natural instinct to protect babies kicks in and causes people who see the sign to drive more carefully. And this does work… for some people. They will see the “Baby on Board” sign and immediately question how safely they have been driving and will become more aware of their surroundings as they introspectively take a deeper look at the way they have been handling their vehicles. On the other hand, some people view the “Baby on Board” signs as a warning to other drivers. In this line of thinking, the sign’s intent is to inform others that there is potentially something overtly distracting (a baby) in the car with the driver. Seeing as most people have at least some kind of experience with babies, when they see that sign they might automatically think about what the driver might be dealing with. Little kids will scream, yell, cry, throw things, make messes and do pretty much anything in their power to get the attention of their parents. That doesn’t make for a very ideal driving situation… Not in the least. Because of this, some drivers might opt to put up the “Baby on Board” sign just to let other drivers know that, “Hey, I’ve got a little hellion in here flipping out, I might not be the safest driver on the road right now.” Another group of people altogether have a different take on the matter. These people just want to take pride in the fact that they have recently produced an offspring. That’s it - they just want others to realize they have the ability to reproduce. There was also once the belief that having these signs posted in a car helped EMTs better deal with situations and collisions that included small kids, but that has long since been debunked. If you’re thinking of getting one of these signs to stick to your Benz window for safety, you might actually want to consider replacing the transmission for your Mercedes so you can accelerate and decelerate more easily.

Does Anyone Pay Attention to “Baby on Board” Signs?

Why Can’t Luxe Car Makers Mass Produce Them And Sell Them Cheaper?

car-doors-factory

Wouldn’t Supply and Demand Lower the Cost?

Car manufacturers like Kia and Hyundai make pretty nice, luxurious-feeling cars full of features at a reasonable price. These end up being marketed as a good value, which in turn targets buyers who aren’t looking to pay a lot of money for a luxury vehicle. While the car you buy from a company like this will still be a good one, they aren’t anywhere near as luxurious as those you might get from a luxury brand that sells its vehicles for two or three times the amount. The reason this is the case is primarily because of two factors. The research and development that goes into creating each brand’s line of cars and the materials used to build them. The autos made by more expensive luxury car brands like Range Rover, Lexus and Audi simply require a higher price tag to continue producing the kind of luxe that their customers have grown accustomed to. When it comes to crafting those new vehicles, the research and development alone can be incredibly costly. For example, the R&D that goes into Mercedes-Benz parts is much more costly than what you would expect to find from a brand like Hyundai, but that also means they last longer and generally have a better resale value. Furthermore, the cost of the actual materials that go into making high-luxury vehicles doesn’t scale like many other types of manufacturing. Where tons of companies can lower prices the more they produce a certain item, high-end products - be it cars, electronics, shoes, furniture or anything else that gets put on the market. For example, fabrics can be made from synthetics or grown relatively quickly to create the covers for seating in a car, the more-luxurious option of leather is going to cost more due to being more difficult to cultivate and process. One of the best ways to understand why luxury car makers can’t mass produce and sell their vehicles cheaper is to look at it in the scope of ordering pizza (odd analogy, I know, but hear me out). If the pizza place makes two sizes of pizza, it is like asking them why they can’t sell their large pizza at the same price as the small just by making more large pizzas. More ingredients go into making the bigger pie and, therefore, is just going to naturally cost more. Likewise, nicer cars use better materials that simply require more money.

With Growing Interest for Mercedes In Chinese Market, Daimler Moves To Manufacture Locally

Mercedes-Benz to Start Building in China

China’s been a hot topic this year for various reasons, but for Mercedes it has been the 28% increase of sales in that market just this year, with more growth expected to follow. To maximize sales in the country though, Daimler has made the move to manufacture the components for electric cars as well as whole electric cars for the Chinese market locally.   As part of a drive to manufacture more products local. Daimler may make batteries and Mercedes-Benz electric cars in China as part of a drive to manufacture more products locally and to try to boost sales, according to board member Hubertus Troska. Sales of the German company’s luxury cars in China have grown 28% so far this year after Mercedes spruced up its designs to give its cars a more sporty and upmarket feel, gaining traction with drivers in the world’s largest car market. “I am confident that Mercedes in China will show a decent performance next year,” Troska, Daimler’s board member responsible for Greater China, told reporters. Class Action Lawsuit Against Mercedes Fails

mercedes-benz-logo-red

Mercedes-Benz Dodges a Big Bullet

The judge presiding the class action lawsuit in New Jersey this tuesday has dismissed the case that Mercedes had misled their customers about their Bluetec Clean Diesel after more recent studies have found the levels of greenhouse gases coming off the exhaust. The case was dismissed due to the plaintiffs not being able to provide evidence of such advertisements in America that would mislead them on the level of emissions from the vehicle.   A U.S. judge in New Jersey on Tuesday threw out a proposed class action lawsuit alleging that automaker Mercedes (DAIGn.DE) misled consumers about emissions standards in "BlueTec Clean Diesel" vehicles. U.S. District Judge Jose Linares said the plaintiffs did not have standing to bring the case. Plaintiffs claimed Mercedes falsely advertised the BlueTec vehicles as having lower emissions. They said that they later found that the emissions were higher than U.S. standards permitted. The judge said the plaintiffs failed to show they actually viewed any of Mercedes' advertisements touting the cleaner technology. He gave them leave to revise their complaint. Continue Reading

Best Rap Songs that Talk About Mercedes-Benz

mercedes-benz-front-grill

Mercedes-Benz Mentions in Hip Hop

There’s something in the air when it comes to the hip hop community and Mercedes-Benz. I imagine it has a lot to do with the fact that the manufacturer makes some of the best vehicles on the road (I might be a little biased, but hey) and that there is a thread of exclusivity when it comes to the German automaker. Either way, there are two things rappers really seem to love: Mercedes-Benz and rims (and we’re here to talk about the former). We were honestly looking to create a full list of all the times that Mercs got mentioned in rap songs, but apparently there are literally thousands of them. Mercedes-Benz mentions are so prevalent in hip hop and rap, in fact, that they squash the number two spot (Bentley) by more than double. As much as we’d like to hunt down every mention for our readers, that would be a months-long (years, maybe) ordeal that would completely turn this blog on its head and thoroughly change the subject matter. That all being said, we decided to whittle it down to just our favorites. We’re probably aging ourself a little bit with the picks below, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re seriously great songs. So, without further ado and in no particular order - here are our favorite (which are obviously the best) rap songs that talk about Mercedes-Benz with the titles being links to each song’s video/song: Eminem - Forgot About Dre Slim Shady, hotter then a set of twin babiesIn a Mercedes Benz with the windows upWhen the temp goes up to the mid-80sCalling men ladies, sorry, Doc, but I been crazy   Notorious B.I.G.- Big Poppa Believe me sweety I got enough to feed the needyNo need to be greedy I got mad friends with Benz'sC-notes by the layers, true f**kin playersJump in the Rover and come over   2pac - Picture Me Rollin’ Picture me rolling in my 500 BenzI got no love for these n***as, there's no need to be friends   50 Cent - In da Club When I pull out up front, you see the Benz on dubsWhen I roll twenty deep, it's twenty knives in the club   Jay-Z & Kanye West - Otis (Feat. Otis Redding) Now I'm bout to make them tuck they whole summer inThey say I'm crazy, well, I'm 'bout to go dumb againThey ain't see me 'cause I pulled up in my other BenzLast week I was in my other other Benz   A Tribe Called Quest - Jazz (We’ve Got) Do it for the strong, we do it for the meekBoom it in your boom it in your boom it in your JeepOr your Honda or your Beemer or your Legend or your BenzThe rave of the town to your foes and your friends   Puff Daddy & Mase - Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down We made hits that'll rearrange your whole setAnd got a Benz, that I ain't even drove yet   Outkast - Benz or Beamer I got these thoughts, similar to the ones that call in the wildUp in the Benz is where I be doin about a hundred miles   Not into rap? Don’t think we forgot about you. Probably the most well-known reference to Mercedes-Benz in music comes from none other than the Eagles with their classic Hotel California: Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bendsShe got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friendsHow they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweatSome dance to remember, some dance to forgetHere’s hoping you like our faves! If you don’t, you might want to reconsider your taste in music ;)

Mercedes Powers Through November Sales

mercedes-benz-logo-hood-ornament

Mercedes-Benz Sales Soared Last Month

For yet another month in a row Mercedes has led in the sale of luxury autos in the US, seeing the competitor BMW take a swift fall this november. While overall Mercedes sales grew by 1.1 percent this month, their competitor BMW AG saw an 18% drop in sales leaving BMW to eat Mercedes’ dust. Not looking to help their vehicle sales but want to keep your classic running smooth, you may want to consider replacing your Mercedes-Benz transmission.   Mercedes-Benz sold the most luxury autos in the U.S. again in November, virtually guaranteeing that the Daimler AG brand will take the full-year title from BMW. Sales of the Mercedes GLC sport utility vehicle more than tripled while C-Class car deliveries held steady, giving the brand a 1.1 percent increase for the month to 30,363 autos, according to a statement Thursday. Toyota Motor Corp. said Lexus slipped 1 percent to 29,050 vehicles, and BMW AG reported an 18 percent drop to 26,189 for its namesake marque. Mercedes is offering more SUVs and in a broader price range, said Rebecca Lindland, senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book. “They have a sense of how to make them attainable without losing that sense of luxury,” which is giving Mercedes a competitive advantage, she said. 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing a Rare Beauty

cooper-weeks-55-300-sl-gullwing

An Investment Like No Other

Originally purchased for $6,000 back in 1965 by Cooper Weeks, a now-retired airline captain for TWA, this ‘55 300 SL Gullwing is now worth $1.5 million and certainly looks like it’s worth at least that much. If you’re thinking about getting a classic back to pristine shape for yourself, check out our selection of Mercedes-Benz body parts as an excellent starting point.   When I was growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, nobody had ever heard of a Gullwing. In 1965, I saw an ad in a Road & Track magazine for one for sale on consignment. It was in Switzerland. I didn’t know what it was, but it struck me. When I bought it for $6,000 (shipping was included), my father told me, “You can’t buy that car!” It was a used car, and I could buy a new Cadillac for that price. We had no idea the Gullwing would become an icon. A lot of people think of it today as the most beautiful car ever built. In its day, the Gullwing was the fastest production car in existence—about 160 mph. It had cutting-edge technology like fuel injection, and the styling was radical, most notably the doors, which open like the wings of a bird. Movie stars owned these cars, such as Clark Gable and Paul Newman. It was only made from 1954 to 1957, and that’s one of the reasons it is such a notable collector’s car today. All-Electric Mercedes-Benz SUV Coming in 2020

innovation-e-mobility-showcar-generation-eq-paris-motor-show-2016

EQ Class SUV is a Stunner

As much as we love classic Mercedes-Benz parts and the cars they fit into, we can’t help but find ourselves more than a little excited for some of the new stuff that Mercedes has in the works. For instance, the slick new all-electric EQ series SUV that’s going to be coming out in 2020 looks undeniably cool both inside and out and we can’t wait to give it a test run.   Believe it or not, the world’s first all-electric cars were invented nearly 200 years ago, offering quiet, easy operation for quick around-town trips (check out my in-depth examination of EVs here). Mercedes-Benz, being the old automotive standby that it is, first got into the EV game in 1906, but like every other major automaker, eventually ditched the batteries in favor of a gas tank. Now, with all-electric transportation once again on the rise, Mercedes has decided to double down on EV investment, and it’s looking like its new major effort will be an SUV. Packing more than 300 miles of range, oodles of luxury, the very latest autonomous tech, and a serious amount of muscle, Merc’s new upcoming model looks to dominate a segment that’s only now starting to emerge.Continue Reading

Mercedes-Benz Continues to Up its Truck Game

mercedes_benz_x_class_concept

Luxe and Utility in a Pickup

Despite your thoughts on whether or not Mercedes-Benz should be building pickup trucks, they’re going to do so regardless. We’re okay with it, though, as long as they continue to put out awesome-looking pickups like their X Class concept (shown above). If you end up getting one (and if they ever get brought to the states), a more classic set of Mercedes-Benz rims might be in order if you don’t like the stock ones the truck will come with. A quick look at sales year to date shows the overwhelming share of trucks outstripping cars, a trend that’s accelerating as automakers pour on truck models, including luxury-brand mash-ups that would’ve been unthinkable traditionally, like a Mercedes-Benz pickup, or a Jaguar SUV.With U.S. automakers due to report November auto sales on Thursday, Dec. 1, there’s no contest between cars and trucks, and little doubt that on the strength of its truck sales Mercedes-Benz will be the luxury-brand champ again this year over Lexus and the BMW brand, by an even wider margin than last year.Year to date through October, for the whole U.S. industry trucks made up 60 percent of sales, up from 56 percent at the same time last year, according to the Automotive News Data Center. Hip Hop Producer Mike WiLL Made-It Survived Hit and Run: Praising God and AMG

Mike WiLL Made-It Made it Through Car Getting Totaled

Mike Will Made-It took to twitter with a video of his totaled Mercedes showing the extent of the damage his Mercedes endured in the hit and run that he seems to have survived relatively unscathed. His praises to AMG may seem a little misplaced, Mercedes-Benz has a long track record of ensuring the safety of their drivers and passengers with top of the line features. It seems that Mercedes body crumpling to absorb the shock of the collision paid off as Mike lives to tweet another day.   High-profile Hip Hop producer Mike WiLL Made-It uploaded a video of his totaled Mercedes to Twitter after being the victim of a hit-and-run over the weekend. The producer, famously responsible for Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles,” as well as hits for Gucci Mane, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce and many others, posted a video to his Twitter account showing the damage done to his Mercedes. He was thankful that the car absorbed all of the damage though, specifically including “Thank God for AMG” in his message. Writing on Twitter, Mike WiLL Made-It tweeted: “Woke up this morning blessed. Blessed to make it out. Survived a hit n run last night in my 63, Thank God for AMG. Continue Reading

Come 2018 Mercedes Will Release The AMG GT Black

amg-gt-black

Cool AMG Coupe Coming Soon

Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers had a recent interview with Top Gear magazine dropping juicy hints and details for the upcoming release of the ultra-premium Black series in AMG. It seems the goal of the Black series is to take successful AMG models and push them to perfection with overhauls to make them more powerful, smoother and “balanced” as Moers put it. We can expect the Black series to resemble previous well loved models, with a major tune up from bumper to bumper.   A new maximum-performance edition of the amazing Mercedes-AMG GT will hit dealers in 2018, Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers told Top Gear magazine. The new Black Series will top even the incredible AMG GT R announced in June. The upgrade will start under the hood, because even the GT R doesn't make enough power for Moers' liking. “I know the GT R chassis is able to handle more power,” Moers told Top Gear. But this new flagship GT won't just be a muscle car. We already know that AMG can build powerful engines, like the V8 in the 612-horsepower E63, but they are looking for balanced performance from the upcoming Black Series, he said. Continue Reading

The Most Expensive Mercedes

Mercedes-Maybach Convertible Tops Price for a Mercedes

Mercedes has dropped a bombshell with the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet which is going to cost about 300,000 euros (About $320,000 USD) making it the most expensive Mercedes on the lineup by quite a large margin. The new S650 is a souped up version of their previous S65 AMG Cabriolet, but the S650 rebuilds the previous model with fine wood, chrome, 621 HP V12 Engine and a whole array of luxury features that makes it worth the hefty price. Mercedes is taking on the likes of Bentley with a long, sparkly convertible unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet is a very exclusive upgraded version of the already-expensive Mercedes S-class Cabriolet. Only 300 of these cars will be made, and they'll feature lots of gorgeous inlaid wood trim and a loads of extra chrome. Mercedes hasn't yet said how much the S650 Cabriolet will cost in the U.S. In Europe, it will run 300,000 euros, which is roughly equivalent to $320,000. The only Mercedes that's nearly that expensive is the closely-related Mercedes-Benz (DDAIF) S65 AMG Cabriolet, which lists at $250,000. Continue Reading

Mercedes Clarifies Stance on US Diesel Releases

2017-mercedes-benz-gle-mbusa

Daimler to Continue Diesel Sales in US

German magazines have spread a rumor that Mercedes-Benz was going to cease the release of diesel engine Benz’s in the US. Well, Daimler the parent company has released a much needed clarification that the rumor is in fact false. Still, Mercedes-Benz has yet to announce what might be coming next, which has left up an air of mystery.   Daimler says it hasn’t decided to stop selling diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz models in the U.S., despite a report from a German magazine saying otherwise. Reuters said today that Mercedes’ parent company Daimler denied a report from weekly magazine Der Spiegel, which had said the carmaker would cease to sell such cars next year. “There is currently no decision nor are there considerations to withdraw diesel from the U.S.,” a company spokesman said. Daimler’s sales of diesel cars make up less than one percent of its Mercedes brand’s car sales in the U.S, he said. Continue Reading

Red Bull Team Discusses Driving Mercedes’ Hamilton Off The Tracks

red-bull-f1-racing

Ricciardo Has Sights Set on Hamilton

For many teams that are not Mercedes, frustration has set in as Hamilton clutches down on the lead for the title to the point that Daniel Ricciardo and his teammate Max Verstappen need to do some aggressive driving to ensure the Mercedes leader doesn’t place anywhere near the top of the board. Too many this is a scandal and unsportsmanlike, Hamilton and the Mercedes team have raced their hearts out to get the lead they have, so is it really a fair race to target and take Hamilton out of the last few races so that someone else can steal the  win. Of course not all the Glory lies with Hamilton as the Mercedes pit team are in prime shape, changing wheels out in 2 seconds and keeping that Mercedes engine in tip top shape from race to race. Daniel Ricciardo thinks he and teammate Max Verstappen would effectively be 'fixing' the Formula 1 world championship if they did not attack Mercedes in the final races. Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are locked in an exclusive fight for the world championship, and there has been a lot of interest about the potential influence either of the Red Bull duo could have in deciding the outcome of the title battle. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has even found himself at the centre of a controversy in Brazil over a phone call he made to Jos Verstappen regarding his son Max. Continue Reading

Will Self-driving Cars Like the Mercedes-Benz F-015 be Fun to Drive?

04-research-vehicle-f-015-luxury-in-motion-mercedes-benz-680x379-de

Will Autonomy Take the Fun Out of Driving? For Some, Yes.

As much as we (obviously) love Mercedes-Benz around here, and seeing as we also love to drive our cars, we often think about how much fun self-driving vehicles like the F-015 will actually be. After getting to experience autonomous vehicles and way too much daydreaming about the days we can have one parked in our own garage, we can identify three kinds of people and how they will react to these inevitable autos. First, there are more than a handful of people out there who just absolutely hate driving. Period. Different strokes for different folks, I guess, so it’s understandable that not everyone is going to take as much joy in pulling off a perfect parallel parking move as we might. Still, these are the people that autonomous driving is really designed for. By not having to pay attention to the road while they drive to and fro their various destinations, their presence on the road should also mean safer roads in general by helping to cut down on a significant amount of road rage and distracted drivers. Second, and this is easily the category that we fall into, are the people who get real enjoyment out of being in control of their cars. For them (us), being driven around in an autonomous wheeled robot sounds like the antithesis of a good time. Accelerating and cornering are a blast for this group of people and having a machine handle all of that just sounds boring once you get over the novelty of having your car chauffeur you around for a day or two. The third group of people are those who are going to get the most out of a self-driving car. These are the folks who don’t feel like they have enough time to read (or take in some other relatively inactive activity like use Facebook, play games on a tablet or whatever else) and can truly capitalize on the freedom given to them during those few moments during a daily commute. These people should already be head over heels for the idea of autonomy in vehicles as they’ll likely be able to go from reading one book a month to several. Wherever you fall into this group, though, it is almost a given that commercially available autonomous cars will be making their way onto roads quicker than you might imagine. Now (for this writer at least), here’s hoping that we can swap out the rims on these cars for something a little more conventional and attractive, right?

Mercedes Hits Just Right Size With Metris Cargo Van

2016-mercedes-benz-metris-cargo-van

Midsize Van with Full-size Capabilities

Mercedes has solved the goldilocks equation with the Mercedes Metris van which is a mid sized cargo van with as much storage and towing capacity. And that’s thanks to the peaked out Mercedes Transmission that was able to be crammed into the spacious Benz while still retaining the ability to be able to park it in a standard size garage.   Mercedes-Benz has officially entered into the growing market of mid-sized cargo vans with the garageable Metris. The Metris is a new, right-sized van offering from Mercedes-Benz that is larger than small vans and smaller than large vans. Its value proposition includes superior craftsmanship, high cargo/towing capacity and an attractive price. It is designed to thrive in large metropolitan areas with an agile yet spacious presence. Its size and garageability allow this mid-size van to fit easily in parking garages and navigate the streets in busy metropolitan areas. In addition to its sophisticated, sleek design, it carries many of the rugged characteristics of the larger Sprinter. Continue Reading Image via Motor News Media Corporation

Mercedes Undecided Whether Or Not To Remain In Formula 1

Mercedes-Benz Considering Exit from F1 Racing

Mercedes-Benz has been a contractual member of Formula 1 racing since 2009 where Mercedes decided to join the sport not only as a racing team but as an engine supplier. But their agreement to remain in the sport wraps up this coming 2020 and team boss Toto Wolff says that Mercedes will remain in the sport as long as it continues to develop in a positive way.   Team boss Toto Wolff says Mercedes is only committed to Formula 1 until 2020. Mercedes co-owner and boss Wolff told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "Mercedes decided in 2009 to compete not only as an engine supplier but also with its own team in Formula 1. We have committed ourselves until 2020, but what happens then is unclear. In my opinion, we will stay in Formula 1 if the sport develops in a positive way." Mercedes' commitment, as well as the other top teams, is in the form of bilateral contractual agreements with the Bernie Ecclestone-led commercial rights holder. Those rights are in the process of being taken over by Liberty Media. Continue Reading

Mercedes Makes A Change To Inline 6s

engine

6-Cylinder Engine Modifications for Benz

Mercedes-Benz abandoned their inline engines back in the 90s when they made a move to consolidate their engine models with interchangeable parts for ease of production. In the 90s V6 engines were the top of the line, but with Mercedes crack engineers they claim to get over 400 horses out of new 6 inline Mercedes engines which we expect to see entering almost every non-electric model from now on. Fifteen years ago, Mercedes-Benz abandoned its inline-sixes in favor of V-6s. “Half of our engine guys were sad when we switched from the inline-six to the V-6 layout,” one of Daimler’s engineers remembers. “Now it’s the other way around.” Mercedes is pulling an about-face, returning to the straight-six configuration for the same reasons that originally had it embrace the V-6. Back then, a common parts and production strategy dictated the switch. Daimler had developed a generation of V-6 and V-8 engines with common parts. (The last remnant of that era is the loosely related 6.0-liter V-12 that sits under the hood of the 600 and AMG 65 models.) Continue Reading

Mercedes Motorsport Boss Admits To Maxed Out Performance

mercedes_logo-9

Mercedes Capped F1 Regulations

While Mercedes is doing great performance wise in this years F1 scene, it’s a far cry from the dominance exhibited last year where Mercedes was bounds and leaps ahead of the competition. Toto Wolff states that this is due to Mercedes hitting a performance cap as far as the regulations are concerned, allowing competition to catch up. Toto Wolff is also against the changes to regulations next year as he is worried it would further destroy the level playing field. While the regulations remain the same, each team has the time to optimize their engines and catch up to the performance titan that is the Mercedes engine.   Mercedes has maxed out on performance under the current Formula 1 regulations, according to its motorsport boss Toto Wolff. Mercedes won its third consecutive constructors' championship in Japan while its drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are again contesting a private battle for the drivers' title. However, Mercedes has not been as dominant this term compared to the first two seasons of the V6 hybrid era. Its tally of 679 points after 19 races is 24 short of its total at the same point last year. After 19 races in 2015, the team had a record 15 front row lockouts, compared to 12 after the same number of races this year, while in the races, it has scored six one-twos this term compared to 12. How Mercedes Achieves Their Unbelievably Smooth Ride

mercedes-benz-grill

How Active Body Control from Mercedes-Benz Works

The Mercedes-Benz line is famous for the smooth ride that each of their models delivers. This secret has been explained in their most recent models with the Active Body Control system that uses hydraulic actuators to separate the movement of the wheels from the movement of the body of the car so that the impact of bumps on the cabin is absolutely minimal. What is more exciting is the Magic Body Control that uses cameras to prep the hydraulics ahead of time for an even smoother ride. Mercedes is certainly cementing their role as the king of suspension. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnpRNQaOVwY Mercedes-Benz vehicles are notorious for their smooth ride quality. Bumps and ruts just don't bother passengers in Mercedes vehicles like they do in other cars. How does Mercedes do it? Jason Fenske from Engineering Explained is here to tell us. In this video, Jason analyzes how two Mercedes suspension systems work. The base system is Active Body Control, and buyers can go one step further with Magic Body Control. The key to both systems is the hydraulic dampers Mercedes uses. These dampers have hydraulic actuators that react to bumps by making the damper assembly shorter and ruts by making it longer. That allows the tire and wheel to move without the body moving nearly as much. Continue Reading

Mercedes’ “Biggest Step Forwards” In Sedans

mercedes-amg-e63

Mercedes-AMG E63

Soon to hit the LA auto show in November is the Mercedes E63 and E63 S, both of which the Mercedes-AMG chairman Tobias Moers described as representing “the biggest step forward we’ve ever taken from one generation to the next.” And looking at the sleek futuristic aesthetics and the horsepower output of the 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine, putting this sedan up to the same number of horses as a few Ferrari supercars, we don’t doubt that claim . On Tuesday, Mercedes-Benz and its AMG performance division unveiled their latest offering — the E63. It is the latest entry in the German super-sedan arms race. When the E63 enters production, it will join a crowded field that includes such industry heavyweights as the BMW M5, Audi RS7, and Porsche Panamera Turbo. The new super fast E-Class model will be offered in two variants: the standard E63 sedan and a "higher" performance E63 S. Both versions of the E63 sedan will be powered a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine. "The new E63 models represent the biggest step forward we've ever taken from one generation to the next," Mercedes-AMG chairman Tobias Moers said in a statement. Continue Reading

Mercedes-Benz Unveils First Luxury Truck

mercedes-benz-green-pickup

When Luxe and Grit Coexist

And the first thing that needs to be said is that it won’t be available in the United States. The X-Class Pickup Truck with the Benz emblem is set to be released late this coming year, with a slew of customization options to make these trucks vary from fancy street truck with the the chrome 3 pointed star, all the way up to a 6 cylinder diesel engine toting all wheel drive all the time off roading machine. While we’re skeptical of how many people are interested in paying Benz prices for a vehicle to drive out to the sand dunes with, we do know we will be petitioning Mercedes to get this beauty on American streets.   After well over a century in the car business, Mercedes-Benz is just getting around to making its first luxury pickup truck. A concept version was revealed Monday. Plans for the truck were first announced in March, 2015, but this is the first detailed look we've had at the design. It's expected to go on sale late next year in parts of Europe, Africa, South America and Australia. But it won't be available in the United States, even though big, luxurious trucks are extremely popular here. Mercedes (DDAIY) showed off two versions of the truck, called the X-class, at a presentation in Stockholm, Sweden on Tuesday. One, a green truck, was outfitted for off-road use. The other truck, which was white, was more of a high-end luxury model with a wood-trimmed interior. Continue Reading

Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe Sets a Comfortable Standard For Mercedes’ Sporty Sub-Brand

2017-c-cab-43amg

AMG C43 a Smooth Operator

While the news is fixated on the AMG C63 being a modern muscle car of German make, the C43 almost slips under the radar. The new C43 coupe is set to make the bridge point between classy comfortable smooth rides and blood boiling explosively fast V-8 Twin-Turbocharged Engine. It’s made to look sleek, drive smooth, and roar when you need it to, the ideal car for someone who wants versatility out of their car.   Daimler’s Mercedes-AMG division has largely made its name on theatrics: things like burly sounding engines, flashy styling add-ons, and wild performance. It’s practically the German equivalent of classic American muscle-car culture, as we saw with the latest C63 S coupe. Its 503-hp, twin-turbocharged V-8 makes a beastly noise and goes like stink, while its rear-wheel-drive setup makes tail-out antics a snap. It also looks the business with huge wheels and flared haunches that set it apart from lesser C-class coupes. While the new Mercedes-AMG C43 coupe shares all but one digit in its name, it’s really a completely different animal, one considerably lower on the food chain. Continue Reading

Mercedes F1 Driver Lewis Hamilton Walks Out On Press Conference

lewis-hamilton

Hamilton Leaves in a Huff

It’s been a rough week in the news regarding Lewis Hamilton, there has been a rather large media witch hunt for his actions at an FIA event where he was using snapchat. After having seen the media’s reaction to him, he gave a rather disappointed speech at his next press conference and walked out without answering a single question. While some might call him a show off, he’ll at least he showing off the right stuff with his Mercedes’ rims.   Lewis Hamilton opted not to answer questions in a Mercedes press conference at Suzuka on Saturday, and after offering an explanation, he walked out of the team's hospitality building. In addition to any FIA events, Hamilton and teammate Nico Rosberg attend short press conferences hosted by Mercedes on Thursday afternoons, and after both qualifying and the race. On this occasion Hamilton took the microphone and paused for a while before referencing negative media reaction to his Snapchat antics in Thursday's FIA press conference, citing it as disrespectful, before putting the microphone down and leaving. The Mercedes Benz G Wagon – The SUV You Would Want In The Event Of A Plague Or Zombie Apocalypse

zombie-girl

The Walking Dead Aren't a Problem if You're Driving a G-Wagon

In the rare event of a zombie apocalypse, the main expected reactions we should see from people are rampant looting and evacuations of city centers. If you were to have the chance to get your hands on any vehicle (perhaps something your neighbors had that you were envious of), then what should you be looking for in your ideal survive-everything automobile of choice? With congested roads, many of which might have been filled with abandoned vehicles as disaster strikes halted bumper to bumper traffic, and being trapped on the open highway like that leaves you rather exposed and open to disaster. One of the most essential features you can look for in a vehicle would be the ability to go off road, and then not needing to take a trip to the currently undead mechanic you used to go to. The 2017 AMG G65 SUV has off roading in spades, with simple efficient german engineering, and enough torque to comfortably drag 7000 pounds with that rather impressive 738 lb-ft torque output which can really get those rims spinning, just in case your getaway plan involved a boat. With society collapsing, you will also need a lot of storage to take everything you need to survive, but also to live and thrive. This is something people often underestimate, planning out just water and beans for the next few months until things blow over. Which is a little too optimistic if you want to survive. You want a car that can store medical supplies, food, water, hunting and fishing supplies, camping gear, seeds if you plan on farming to survive the rest of your life, tools to fix anything that breaks, gas to refuel the tank since you never know when you are going to be able to stop and refill again, maybe storage if any of your friends or loved ones have survived, and toilet paper - you really don’t want to go cold turkey on this modern amenity. The AMG G65 is also surprisingly fast for its size, pulling out 0 to 60 in a reasonable 5.3 seconds, for when you really need to be anywhere but where you currently are. Also while many may not like the classic G-Wagon boxy-shape, the view from the inside of the cab gives you a rather panoramic view in every direction, like seeing the entire world from an observation deck that is hauling balls over a sand dune. And while I can advise the G-Wagon for the immediate future after societal collapse, the issues of continued need for gas really do crawl up and cripple this monster in the long run. When maintenance on the power grid ceases due to the apocalypse, we can swiftly expect the pumps at gas stations to cease working. You can get by with Siphoning if you know how to do it without sucking gas into your mouth, there are better ways to do it but we’d rather not the liability of explaining how to do so here. The long story short though, is that in America Gasoline will quickly become a scarce resource as gas tanks shut down and tanks are siphoned down, or the gas spoiled from sitting idle too long - which if you lived to see would be a good indicator that you are otherwise doing pretty well at the whole surviving thing. What this is all leading up to though is that after using the AMG G65 to get the hell out of dodge and make your living until the smoke blows over, you will likely find more long term success using a diesel hulk like the Mercedes Charger vans which are certified to burn pretty much anything, but if you can get an established base set up, bio-diesel will be your ticket to riding out the rest of your days with some modern amenities afforded by a luxury car.

Why Is Everyone Loving Tesla And Can Mercedes Compete?

tesla-s

Tesla's Reputation is Hard to Beat

Tesla has been the focus of a lot of love coming from every source of car media, from social media to old established car magazines. It seems that everybody loves the new all electric focused upstart that has revitalized public interests, but why now and why Tesla? Tesla dropped a bombshell on the auto industry when they released their functioning electric models, and they’ve had their name become synonymous with electric cars, which is the place to be now that everyone and their mother is becoming more and more interested in being eco friendly in every way that they can. The electric motor has been around for a long time now, and it has been experimented with cars long before Tesla started building their first car. The problems came in the fact that we lacked the infrastructure to properly refuel these cars on any long distance trips and efficient batteries that could give these cars enough range to be practical in any sense. Tesla has capitalized at a time where batteries have been revolutionized by mobile phone producers and everyone is ready to throw money out to get recharge spots around towns so that these all electric vehicles can have their own form of gas station. So what’s holding Mercedes back, and can they catch up? Well, Mercedes has already been on the charge for setting up brand new factories to produce their all electric cars set to be released between 2017 and 2024, with new all electric future car designs being dropped almost every week. Mercedes has already started catch up, but they’re also being held back by their mainstay internal combustion engine cars. They still have a ludicrous amount of infrastructure invested into building gas and diesel models, and they recognize that not all of their customers may want an electric model. The fact that Mercedes has to divide their attention between two entirely different motors is going to cost them a lot of money to stay competitive with both. But if any company is going to have the assets and experience to modernize to the new electric craze it would be good old Mercedes-Benz. Plus, does Tesla have any chances to get sweet new rims for free?

What Makes High End Cars So expensive?

rimtwinchrome2white-fixed

Why Expensive Cars are so... Expensive

So not a lot of people actually ask this question, and most that come across it will probably answer the question incorrection, or at least mostly incorrect. When it comes to luxury cars being more expensive, it is easy to assume that this is due to higher quality parts and the cost of installing all of these extra features, you’d be on a decent track but not quite covering much of the distance in the gap between prices. Now what a person really is buying when they buy a luxury car would be the exclusiveness of the model. How much it stands out in comparison to the robins, or because of the features it offers like a superior engine and extra safety features to keep you and yours in the possibility of accident. But the true source of the increased cost would be the fact that you are paying for the exclusivity of the item in question. Every single detail of every car you meet on the road was designed and built in factories and engineering labs that costs a significant amount of money before you even start accounting for material costs. As far as the material cost difference between a luxury car and a honda civic, is that the luxury car only sold 10,000 models while the civic has sold a few million, and if the designing costs for the civic and the luxury car  were of anywhere similar amounts, then the honda civics designing costs are divided between 200 times more people than our generically named luxury car. The true cost of luxury cars comes from paying for the infrastructure to put them on the markets while expecting a lower sale volume. Now with luxury cars you often seek to be noticed on the road, and now the cheapest way to get noticed is a fresh new pair of Mercedes rims that you might have the chance to win for free.

How To Get Mercedes-Benz To Pay Attention To Your Innovation Requests

light-bulbs-ideas

Submitting an Innovative Idea to Mercedes-Benz

So you think you’ve got a brand new idea that could revolutionize the Mercedes-Benz of your preference and you want them to include it in the next year lineup? Well, turns out auto company engineers are discouraged from speaking with private individuals due to a scandal involving a windshield wiper patent that many car companies plagiarized and eventually the owner of the design did successfully sue. So what’s this mean about your new idea? Well it depends on if you want to make money off the idea or not. If you have a design or innovation so great that you think you could make a decent sum of cash off of it, then you’ll want to file a patent pending to own the idea before throwing it out to the engineers. So if you find that your idea has been stolen, you can then follow through with legal repercussions. If your idea is good enough and you have the available capital to have a startup, then you can market your product to be sold by part to auto-makers. If you don’t have the startup capital, then the easier method is to find a means to sell the patent to auto-makers who’d have an interest in your design. However if you are an engineering philanthropist, then you can skip the legal troubles and self publish your designs on existing models of cars from various brands that you have an interest in. Then write a review about how much your new part has increased gas mileage in the new Mercedes engine or any other quality of life improvements your designs could add. Bonus points if you actually build and test the design and get real concrete data. Once you’ve done this you just need to share it on car discussion forums and by natural osmosis your ideas will make it to the engineers who could use or improve it.

How A Luxury Car Can Help You Make More Money

mercedes-luxury-car

Don't Be Afraid to Show Your Success

In general most people don’t consider cars as much of an investment beyond perhaps modern fuel efficient cars as a means to save money. A luxury car is what people buy to show off their disposable income, and as cars are driven they depreciate in value, so how does one consider a luxury car an investment for any business savvy man? It all comes down to image and ego, if the luxury cars are the toys of the wealthy then obviously having one is a sign of being successful. You pay that extra money to get the Mercedes-Benz and people will see you driving it or getting out of it and think that you must be successful to drive a car like that around. In the business of sales, marketing and most importantly consulting, your image means everything to the client. Nobody is going to take money advice from someone who doesn’t look like they have a cent to their name, so consultants invest and get a good shoes, suit, tie, the whole deal to look presentable to their customer. If you are going that far to convince your customer that you have money and are thus credible, then the Porsche or Mercedes or whatever brand sounds most prestigious in your area would be an accessory to credibility. When it comes down to it, if customers see your car, or your business place, or you, and they feel like your competitor has more money than you, they will assume that your competition is the better business. Many people do not change their first impressions, so not having everything in order to look great is a way to lose sells to your competition that went the extra mile in presentability. But if you need a luxury car to get more money to become more successful, then wouldn’t you already need to be successful to get the car? Not necessarily. A salesman cares about making the best impression to the widest audience possible, and typically a low enough percent of the population know enough about cars to know that your Mercedes is 4 years out of season with a fresh set of rims purchased for the cheap online to keep the sparkle like it’s new and valuable going.
